Barbara Gross Galerie is a contemporary art gallery based in Munich, founded in 1988. Since its inception, the gallery has developed a long term, internationally oriented program that brings together artists of different generations and backgrounds, with an emphasis on independent positions working across a wide range of media and stylistic approaches.
From an early stage, Barbara Gross Galerie played a pioneering role in supporting female artists at a time when their work was still underrepresented, contributing to the recognition of figures such as Silvia Bächli, Louise Bourgeois, Maria Lassnig, Kiki Smith, Jana Sterbak, and Nancy Spero, many of whom were exhibited in Germany for the first time through the gallery. Building on this foundation, the program has consistently engaged with politically and socially critical practices, conceptual art, photography, and new media, while also expanding beyond a Western focused perspective. Today, the gallery represents established and younger international artists whose work is regularly featured in major institutional exhibitions, including documenta and the Venice Biennale.
