Ecart is a contemporary art space based in Geneva, Switzerland, founded in 1969 by John Armleder, Patrick Lucchini, and Claude Rychner. Established as an artist run initiative, Ecart emerged as a pioneering platform for experimental and conceptual practices, playing a significant role in the development of alternative and avant garde art in Europe from the late 1960s onward.
Originally operating as a gallery, bookshop, and publishing project, Ecart became known for its engagement with Fluxus, concrete poetry, performance, mail art, and conceptual art, collaborating with artists such as George Brecht, Robert Filliou, and Ben Vautier. Its activities blurred the boundaries between exhibition making, publishing, and artistic production, positioning Ecart as an influential model for artist led spaces and a key reference point in the history of postwar experimental art.
