Edwynn Houk Gallery is a New York based photography gallery founded in 1977, with a long standing focus on vintage photographs from the period between 1917 and 1939. Since its establishment, the gallery has specialized in works by leading figures of the Modernist movement, positioning itself as an important reference point for early twentieth century photographic practice and its historical development.
Over the course of its history, the gallery has organized more than 200 exhibitions and published 20 scholarly monographs. Edwynn Houk Gallery has also played a significant role in the stewardship and presentation of major photographic legacies, serving as the exclusive representative for the estates of Dorothea Lange, Erwin Blumenfeld, Brassaï, Bill Brandt, André Kertész, Ilse Bing, Lillian Bassman, as well as the Robert Frank Archive. Through this focused program, the gallery maintains a strong connection between historical scholarship, connoisseurship, and museum level presentation.
