Galería Isabel Aninat
Santiago, 7630476 Chile Get Directions
Founded in 1982 by Isabel Aninat during Chile’s military dictatorship, Galería Isabel Aninat became a crucial space for artistic freedom and intellectual exchange at a time when creative expression was heavily restricted. The gallery provided a platform for exiled and dissident artists including José Balmes, Juan Downey, Carlos Leppe, and members of the C.A.D.A. collective, establishing itself as a center of cultural resistance and a catalyst for critical dialogue during Chile’s democratic transition.
Since 1997, Galería Isabel Aninat has expanded its reach internationally, representing leading Chilean and Latin American artists at major art fairs such as Art Basel, ARCO Madrid, and The Armory Show. Now directed by Javiera García-Huidobro, the gallery continues to support multidisciplinary and conceptually driven practices that address social, political, and environmental issues. Through collaborations with institutions worldwide, it has helped bring Latin American voices to global recognition, with its artists featured in prominent museums including the Guggenheim, MoMA, Malba, Reina Sofía, and Tate Modern.
