Galerie 1900-2000 is a Paris based gallery founded in 1972 by Marcel Fleiss, initially under the name Galerie des Quatre Mouvements. Established with the encouragement of Man Ray, the gallery opened with an exhibition of the artist’s rayographs and quickly became an important platform for both leading figures of 20th century art and the rediscovery of historically significant yet overlooked artists. From 1981 onward, the gallery developed an ambitious exhibition program, presenting more than 150 exhibitions and producing over 100 catalogues that are widely regarded as key sources of primary documentation and scholarly reference.
Since 1991, David Fleiss has played a central role in expanding the gallery’s photography department, working alongside Marcel Fleiss to shape its long term vision. Today, Galerie 1900-2000 is particularly recognized for its deep engagement with Surrealism across painting, drawing, and photography, while continuing to present important works from the 20th century in dialogue with selected artists of the 21st century. Through its curatorial rigor and sustained commitment to research, the gallery maintains a distinctive position within the historical and contemporary art landscape.
