Galerie Bärbel Grässlin is a contemporary art gallery founded in Frankfurt am Main in 1985. Since 2007, it has been located in a large former glass wholesale building on Schäfergasse, redesigned by architect Klaus Dreissigacker to accommodate an ambitious exhibition program. The gallery is widely recognized for its long term commitment to influential German artists who emerged in the 1980s and 1990s and achieved international prominence, many of whom it has represented since the early stages of their careers.
The gallery’s program has historically centered on painting, sculpture, and photography, with key artists including Werner Büttner, Günther Förg, Martin Kippenberger, Reinhard Mucha, and Markus Oehlen. From the late 1980s onward, Galerie Bärbel Grässlin expanded its focus to encompass important conceptual and minimalist positions such as Dan Flavin and Imi Knoebel, as well as Austrian artists including Herbert Brandl, Franz West, and Heimo Zobernig. Closely connected to Frankfurt’s local art scene and the Städelschule, the gallery continues to support successive generations of artists while maintaining an active presence at major international art fairs, including Art Basel, Art Basel Miami Beach, ARCO Madrid, Art Cologne, and Paris+.
