Michael Janssen Gallery, established in Cologne in 1995, has a rich history of international engagement and artist development. The gallery operated in Cologne for twelve years, hosting over eighty exhibitions before co-directing ‘The Happy Lion’ in Los Angeles’ Chinatown from 2002 to 2006, where it showcased young local artists and revisited the work of mid-career figures.
Relocating to Berlin in 2007, the gallery continued to foster relationships with established artists while also championing emerging talents. A subsequent branch in Singapore’s Gillman Barracks, active from 2012 to 2015, further extended its reach through exhibitions and public programming. Since its 2021 move to a new Berlin space, Michael Janssen Gallery has amplified its contemporary focus, now presenting a global roster of emerging and mid-career artists such as Gulnur Mukazhanova from Kazakhstan, Yafeng Duan from China, Louis Cameron from the African American diaspora, and Yonamine from Angola, underscoring its commitment to a diverse and international artistic vision.
