gdm is a contemporary art gallery founded in 1974 by Fred Scholle under the name Galerie du Monde. Based in Hong Kong and operating with a global outlook, the gallery represents more than twenty artists at different stages of their careers and is widely recognized for its early and sustained support of postwar and contemporary movements. Its historical program includes pioneering engagement with Hong Kong’s Circle Art Group and Taiwan’s Fifth Moon movement, positioning the gallery as an important reference point in the region’s art history.
With the launch of gdm Projects in 2008, the gallery renewed its focus on contemporary art, placing particular emphasis on emerging and underrepresented diaspora artists whose practices often engage questions of cultural identity and conceptual inquiry. gdm actively collaborates with curators and institutions worldwide, extending its program beyond its primary exhibition spaces. In 2024, marking its 50th anniversary, the gallery expanded with a new location in Taipei and introduced Siōng Tshinn, a dedicated initiative focused on emerging local talent that provides a platform for young, unrepresented Taiwanese artists, reinforcing gdm’s long term commitment to community rooted artistic development.
