Gerhardsen Gerner is a contemporary art gallery founded in 1995 in Oslo by Atle Gerhardsen under the original name c/o. From its early years, the gallery played a formative role in introducing leading international contemporary artists to Norway, presenting early exhibitions by figures such as Tony Oursler, Matthew Ritchie, and Carroll Dunham. In 2000, the gallery relocated to Berlin, opening a space in 2001 in the railway arches near Jannowitzbrücke, an area that at the time functioned as a central hub for the city’s gallery scene and cultural initiatives.
In 2009, the gallery was renamed Gerhardsen Gerner to reflect the long standing partnership with Nicolai Gerner Mathisen. It expanded back to Oslo in 2012 with new premises in Tjuvholmen, establishing a renewed presence in Norway. Since then, the gallery has presented exhibitions by internationally recognized artists including Tal R, Julian Opie, Olafur Eliasson, Elmgreen and Dragset, Nathalie Djurberg and Hans Berg, Paloma Varga Weisz, Jonathan Meese, and Monica Bonvicini, positioning Gerhardsen Gerner as a key platform for contemporary art in both Nordic and international contexts.
