Hanart TZ Gallery is a contemporary art gallery based in Hong Kong, founded in 1983, with a long standing focus on the development and international presentation of Chinese contemporary art. For more than four decades, the gallery has acted as an important link between artists from Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and the wider Chinese diaspora and the global art community. It played a formative role in shaping critical discourse through its involvement in landmark exhibitions such as The Stars 10 Years, China’s New Art Post 1989, and Power of the Word, which helped define key moments in the evolution of contemporary Chinese art.
Alongside its exhibition program, Hanart TZ has organized major international projects and institutional exhibitions for artists including Ju Ming, Liu Guosong, Zhang Xiaogang, Fang Lijun, and Feng Mengbo. In 2010, the gallery expanded its activities with the opening of Hanart Square, a platform dedicated to installation and experimental practices. Scholarship and research remain central to its identity, supported by sustained collaboration with curators and writers, the production of more than one hundred exhibition catalogues, and publications such as the influential volume 3 Parallel Artworlds: 100 Art Things from Chinese Modern History, which reflects the gallery’s commitment to critical inquiry and historical context.
