Hive Center for Contemporary Art is a leading contemporary art gallery founded in Beijing in 2013 by XIA Jifeng. The name “Hive” serves as a metaphor for collective modes of living and the multiplicity of human thought, reflecting the gallery’s interest in contemporary social structures and artistic production. The gallery currently operates three spaces across Beijing and Shanghai, with its original Beijing location situated in the 798 Art Zone, one of China’s most significant centers for contemporary art.
Marking its tenth anniversary in 2023, Hive Center for Contemporary Art expanded its presence with the opening of Hive Shanghai and Hive Becoming, both located in architecturally significant buildings in Shanghai’s historic Bund area. The gallery represents a diverse roster of established and emerging artists working across varied cultural and geographic contexts. Through its exhibition program, Hive is committed to supporting the development of contemporary Chinese art while fostering international exchange by presenting notable global artists and projects to audiences in China.
