HOUSING is a New York based contemporary art space dedicated to stimulating public discourse through the work of artists and creative practitioners whose practices are driven by critical intent and social commentary. The gallery supports artistic approaches that push against established boundaries of visibility and access, with a particular focus on advancing the conditional inclusion of artists of color, especially Black artists, within the contemporary art landscape.
Centered around a Black femme directed curatorial program, HOUSING actively challenges conventional models of the gallery system, questioning the structures, bodies, and power relations that shape artistic production and presentation. Originally founded in the historically Black neighborhood of Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, the gallery later relocated to the Lower East Side after displacement caused by gentrification. Through its programming and positioning, HOUSING foregrounds the intersection of artistic practice, community, and structural critique.
