Hunsand Space is a contemporary art gallery founded in 2014 in Beijing’s Caochangdi Art Zone, later relocating in 2018 to the 798 Art District, where its headquarters are now situated within a distinctive sunken two story building in a Bauhaus architectural complex. The gallery has steadily expanded its geographic and conceptual scope, establishing the Hunsand Center for Contemporary Art in Shijiazhuang at the end of 2021, which by late 2023 moved to Beizhangcheng Village in Jingxing, embedded within an old church in a historic Taihang Mountains village. In early 2023, Hunsand Space further extended its presence with the opening of a Hangzhou branch in Fujiwan, Zhuantang, Xihu, housed in a converted farmhouse near the Longwu Tea Plantation.
Across its locations in Beijing, Shijiazhuang, and Hangzhou, Hunsand Space maintains a program attentive to place, architecture, and lived experience. The gallery positions itself in opposition to the standardization of exhibitions, seeking instead to address shared existential conditions and to illuminate overlooked dimensions of contemporary culture through ongoing exhibitions, research driven projects, and long term artistic engagement.
