Isla Flotante is a contemporary art gallery based in Buenos Aires, founded in 2012 as an artist run space that brought together studios, exhibitions, and social encounters. From its early years, the gallery became an important meeting point within the city’s contemporary art scene through a strong commitment to presenting very young and emerging artists. Its growing participation in international art fairs supported a rapid expansion of the project, while a move in 2015 to a large warehouse in La Boca, a neighborhood historically associated with twentieth century Argentine art, contributed to the development of a new art circuit and reinforced the gallery’s local impact.
Since 2018, Isla Flotante has operated from its first owned space in the Retiro district. Alongside its exhibition program, the gallery’s directors were co founders of MERIDIANO, a collective of Argentine galleries advocating for a more professional, collaborative, and politically engaged contemporary art sector. The gallery continues to maintain a young avant garde ethos, engaging critically with questions of legitimation, power, circulation, gender, and identity, while representing a focused group of artists primarily from Argentina and Bolivia at different stages of their careers.
