Ivan Gallery is a contemporary art gallery based in Bucharest, founded in 2007 as a private initiative within Romania’s then emerging commercial gallery landscape. From the outset, the gallery has focused on artists from Romania and the wider Eastern European region, working with both established figures and younger generations in order to position their practices within an international context. Early and ongoing collaborations include seminal artists such as Geta Brătescu, Paul Neagu, Lia Perjovschi, and Ion Grigorescu, alongside emerging artists including Giulia Cretulescu, Cristina David, Gavril Pop, and Iulia Toma.
The gallery also represents Romanian artists living and working abroad, such as Bartha Sandor and Mădălina Zaharia, as well as international artists including Elijah Burgher, Ross Taylor, and Jaro Varga. Ivan Gallery’s program is grounded in the support of artists whose work is shaped by a rigorous conceptual discourse, while maintaining a strong research based commitment to documenting and exhibiting the conceptual and experimental practices of lesser known Romanian artists active in the second half of the twentieth century, among them Horia Bernea, Simona Runcan, Florina Coulin, and Adela Petrescu.
