Jahn und Jahn is an international contemporary art gallery with locations in Munich and Lisbon, established in 2017 through the merger of the galleries founded by Fred Jahn and Matthias Jahn. The gallery builds on decades of close collaboration with artists and a program shaped by long term relationships and international exchange. Fred Jahn opened Galerie Fred Jahn in Munich in 1978 after working closely with Heiner Friedrich, developing a program that included artists such as Georg Baselitz, Gerhard Richter, Per Kirkeby, and Fred Sandback. Matthias Jahn founded his own gallery in Munich in 2008 on Baaderstraße, initially focusing on a younger generation of artists connected to the milieu around Günther Förg before expanding the program internationally.
The partnership expanded in 2018 with Tim Geissler joining as a partner, strengthening the gallery’s organizational and curatorial framework. In 2022, Jahn und Jahn further extended its presence by opening a second gallery space in Lisbon, Portugal, the same year Anka Ziefer and Carolina Trigueiros were appointed senior directors in Munich and Lisbon respectively. Across both locations, the gallery maintains a strong emphasis on sustained engagement with its artists and on the production of scholarly publications that accompany exhibitions, reinforcing its commitment to research, dialogue, and carefully contextualized presentation.
