Jhaveri Contemporary
Mumbai, 400001 India Get Directions
Jhaveri Contemporary was established in Mumbai in 2010 by sisters Amrita and Priya Jhaveri with a focus on artists whose work is informed by South Asian traditions and global connections. The gallery represents a diverse roster across different generations and nationalities, often facilitating meaningful dialogues between established figures and emerging voices. Located in a historic building overlooking the Gateway of India, the gallery is recognized for its commitment to original scholarship and its focus on exploring lesser known art histories through carefully curated exhibitions.
Before founding the gallery, the Jhaveri sisters were deeply involved in the art community, producing a major guidebook on Indian artists in 2005 and organizing the first public exhibition of Anish Kapoor in India. Today, the gallery continues to expand the field by fostering conversations between artists, curators, and historians. It also represents the estates of important artists such as Mrinalini Mukherjee and Anwar Jalal Shemza, ensuring their work remains a vital part of contemporary critical discussion.
