KANEGAE
Kyoto, 603 8215 Japan Get Directions
Kanegae is a Kyoto based gallery established in 1983, located opposite the main gate of Daitokuji Temple, an important center of Zen Buddhism and traditional Japanese culture. Since its founding, the gallery has worked across a broad range of fields, from historical antiques to contemporary art, developing a particular expertise in exceptional craftsmanship. Its program highlights traditional Japanese crafts distinguished by an extraordinary level of technical precision and aesthetic refinement, works that are held in the collections of museums and private collectors in Japan and internationally.
Building on this foundation, Kanegae launched the KOGEI Next project in 2021 to explore the future of craft. The initiative focuses on collaboration with contemporary craft artists to create works informed by historical masterpieces while incorporating modern technologies and sensibilities. Through this forward looking approach, Kanegae seeks to define new directions for craftsmanship and to produce works intended to endure as meaningful cultural artifacts for generations to come.
