Paula Cooper Gallery is a pioneering contemporary art gallery in New York, founded by Paula Cooper in 1968 as the first gallery in Soho dedicated to contemporary art. Since 1996 it has been based in Chelsea, where it occupies spacious venues that allow for ambitious exhibitions and large scale installations. From its earliest years, the gallery has been closely associated with conceptual and minimal art, presenting influential exhibitions that helped shape the artistic discourse of the late twentieth century in the United States.
Today, Paula Cooper Gallery represents and exhibits an international roster of established and emerging artists working across sculpture, painting, photography, video, sound, and performance. The program is known for its rigorous curatorial approach, historically informed projects, and collaborations with artists estates, as well as for hosting performances, screenings, and special events. With its long standing commitment to experimentation and critical inquiry, the gallery remains a central presence in New York’s contemporary art landscape.
