kó

kó is a contemporary art gallery based in Lagos, dedicated to the presentation of modern and contemporary art from Nigeria, Africa, and the wider diaspora. Its program balances a commitment to Nigeria’s leading modern artists with the promotion of emerging and established contemporary practitioners, working across a wide range of media including painting, sculpture, installation, textiles, ceramics, photography, and digital practices. Exhibitions are presented at the gallery’s Ikoyi space and are complemented by residency based projects that have helped introduce new artistic voices to international audiences.

A central aspect of kó’s mission is the revitalization of critical discourse around Nigeria’s modernist and post colonial art histories, particularly through research driven projects engaging artists active from the 1940s to the 1980s. The gallery’s artists have entered major international institutional collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, Tate, the High Museum of Art, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, and Fondation H. kó’s program and research have received wide international attention, with coverage in publications such as The New York Times, Artforum, and the Financial Times.
