Sylvia Kouvali is an international contemporary art gallery with locations in London and Athens, originally founded in Istanbul in 2007 under the name Rodeo. From its inception, the gallery has pursued an artist centered program that emphasizes the formal and conceptual qualities of artworks rather than geographic origin, with the aim of fostering sustained dialogue between artists, collectors, curators, and institutions worldwide. The gallery has consistently collaborated with museums and biennials to commission and present ambitious new works, supporting the long term international visibility of its artists.
The opening of a second space in London in 2014, initially in Soho and later relocated to Mayfair in 2020, marked a significant expansion of the gallery’s international presence. In 2018, a third space was established in Piraeus, Greece, enabling the gallery to place contemporary practices in conversation with historically significant positions, as seen in projects involving artists such as Leidy Churchman and Liliane Lijn. Through an integrated program across its locations, Sylvia Kouvali provides a platform for both new production and art historical engagement across distinct cultural contexts.
